A Delayed Blessing

In my last blog, I talked about God’s blessings on us and how every blessing is meant to transfer to others. We are to be conduits of his blessing, not a reservoir. In addition, God blesses us because He wants to spend more time with us in relationship because He made us for Him. There is clearly a purpose behind His provision for us.

YOU SEE, YOUR DESTINY IS NEVER ONLY ABOUT YOU.

The problem is that it’s sometimes difficult to see that destiny when you are going through tough times. Let’s look at Joseph of Genesis if you want to talk about a guy who can’t get a break.

First, his brothers threw him in a pit and sold him.

Then, he is falsely accused of rape and is thrown in a Dungeon. Understand that a dungeon is a pit below the prison and is really just a hole that you have to be lowered into.

Third, while in the pit he helps the Pharaoh’s Cup Bearer with a dream and saves his life, yet the guy forgets about him for two years.

Where was the God of Joseph’s destiny in all his disappointments? If we revisit his time in the dungeon, we are probably perplexed with why God left Joseph in prison an additional two years after he helped the Cup Bearer. This is definitely a time he probably thought that God had abandoned him, but it wasn’t true. For two years later the Pharaoh needed someone to interpret his dreams and the Cup Bearer remembered Joseph. It is in God’s time, not ours.

God has the perfect time to continue our story and sometimes He permits suffering and disappointments for His reasons.

Understand that Joseph never knew the Pharaoh and the Pharaoh didn’t know him. Within 24 hours Joseph was shaved, cleaned up, in new clothes and was wearing the Pharaoh’s signet ring. He became second in command of his kingdom in Egypt. Joseph was clearly blessed with a lot of stuff because he used the gifts God gave him. If you read my last blog, you will remember that God does not give us a blessing without an expectation that we transfer that blessing to others.

WHEN YOU ARE GOING THROUGH TOUGH TIMES AND THEN RECEIVE A BLESSING, KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BLESSING HE WANTS YOU TO BE, NOT JUST THE BLESSING YOU RECEIVE.

Here is the remarkable thing about God’s plan. While Joseph’s brothers were selling him, God was sending Joseph. God was preparing to use Joseph. When Joseph was put in charge of all of Egypt during the abundance and then the famine, he was in charge of preserving those people in Egypt, including his brothers and father. Understand that it took 20 years, but that is nothing to God. As a result, Joseph was not just blessed with riches, a great house, and power, he was sent to preserve the lives of many in Egypt.

God has His own timing in our lives and most of the time the waiting teaches us something if we are still listening to Him while we go through the trials and detours. Take Abraham for example. God put Abraham through numerous trials and destinations for 25 years to grow and mature him and then God said that all the nations will be blessed as I bless you.

You think God forgets promises? 430 years after God made the promise to Abraham; because of Joseph, God’s people are in Egypt (Exodus) complaining and asking God for a fulfilling of His promise. Moses, who was a shepherd, and had been a shepherd of sheep for 40 years due to a mistake he made, was visited by God through a burning bush. Understand on one hand God is listening to His people complain in Egypt and on another hand God has been training Moses for 40 years not to move until God is ready to use him. He was also teaching him to be a humble leader so he would trust God and be able to lead dumb sheep so he could lead dumb people. God was now prepared to lead His people out of Egypt to the Promised Land because He now had the right leader properly trained to face Pharaoh.

WHETHER WE KNOW IT OR NOT, GOD HAS A PLAN AND IS ALWAYS PUTTING THE RIGHT PEOPLE IN THE RIGHT PLACES TO SAVE HIS PEOPLE.

All we see is our situation and cannot know where God wants us or how God wants to use us or when God wants to use us unless we trust Him. We need to understand something so that we don’t become prideful in this. God is not limited to us. If we don’t trust Him, he has others that do.

Don’t be satisfied to be blessed alone. Look to God’s destiny for us which always involves others. You are called to the Kingdom for a time of Destiny. It will take patience, obedience, and humility. We are always to be a blessing for others.

HAVE YOU BEGUN TO LOOK THROUGH YOUR BLESSING TO SEE WHAT GOD IS CALLING YOU TO USE THAT BLESSING FOR?
