Life’s Important Questions

I am in the process of writing another book on the seven secrets of a lasting Christian Legacy. Before any thought of leaving a legacy for your children, you might want to consider them because they are questions your children will want to know your answers for. Over the next 7 weeks, I am going to help you discover your answers to these seven questions:

  1. Why do I exist?
  2. Is there a God?
  3. Am I unique?
  4. Why is life so unfair?
  5. Why do I feel so alone?
  6. Why don’t I do what I know I should?
  7. Is there life after death?

Today I want to tackle the first question: Why do I exist? Does my life have any significance and does anyone really care? This is a key question in this day and age of increasing suicides with veterans and children, and the increasing use of drugs and pornography.

Religion, specifically faith in Jesus,  is NOT growing in America. Why? One reason is that many of our youth have been taught in secular universities that the Bible is just a lot of make-believe stories and that it has been changed so many times that it has no credibility. The Universities are filled with non-believing Professors who gain the respect of the students and are seen as smarter than their parents. Aiding this doubt in faith is the proliferation of divorce in our country, including Christians. (I am not innocent here).  Many of our youth have lost hope in marriage and the commitments that Christians vow to and preach. Christians have a problem with practicing the truth they preach and when you look into many churches the hypocrisy is incredible. It is no wonder that our youth have so many questions about our human dilemma and our purpose for existence. The fact is, many do not know why they are here and what they are here for. Life seems so meaningless and life after death appears to be a false hope. It is no wonder that so many get discouraged and take up drinking and drugging just to cope. Sex addiction and pornography are rampant. Addictions are starting as early as grade school!

I’ve learned about all of this through personal examples, but I also know the answer everyone needs to hear.

However, I do not have a definitive, successful method of communicating this message to everyone that needs it…in a way that penetrates their heart.  That is the work of the Holy Spirit, it is only ours to share the answer.

The answer is very simple. God who created every one of us fully expects all of us to have a higher purpose than just pleasing ourselves. It starts with believing he exists and then believing that we are all sinful and in need of a savior. The Bible clearly states that our sins are punishable by death and that Jesus became our substitute in that death. He helped purge us of our sins so that we could glorify our Father in heaven.

So, the first step is to accept what Jesus did and glorify the Father for His commitment to save us from our sins. This is an act of love by Jesus and the Father and when we accept His love He then tells us to pass it on. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son…” (Romans 8:28-29)

You and I were created to bear the image of Jesus Christ and to make the truth of God known to all. Admittedly, this has been extreemely challenging for me, but praying for the grace of God to help me has been my salvation.

It is our weakness that God looks to use, not just our strengths.

The mission that Jesus started has been passed on to each of us. Our mission, after we have been restored to a loving relationship with Jesus, is to help others see the restoring love of Jesus. What a purpose that is and what a wonderful reason to live. All else is simply banging a symbol with no one to hear.
