Remember

You and I have already begun the journey that will lead us into the sunset of our lives. We began the journey the day we were born. That is why hellos are so sad because you know the minute you say hello you have opened the door to goodbye. Solomon explains this in poetic fashion in Ecclesiastes, chapter 12, verses 3 to 5:

3. When the keepers of the house tremble,
and the strong men stoop,
when the grinders cease because they are few,
and those looking through the windows grow dim;
4. when the doors to the street are closed
and the sound of grinding fades;
when people rise up at the sound of birds,
but all their songs grow faint;
5. when people are afraid of heights
and of dangers in the streets;
when the almond tree blossoms
and the grasshopper drags itself along
and desire no longer is stirred.
Then people go to their eternal home
and mourners go about the streets.

It is a picture of decay, of a life in decay, a foretaste of the future. It is for this reason that we should remember our creator while there is still time. He has destined each of us to leave a Legacy. What will yours look like?

Easter is a time to remember and marvel and believe. Easter is a time to know what is important and share that with family and friends now and often. So many of us make calculations every day.  Whether it is in insurance, accounting, engineering, the legal field or medicine. They can calculate tables and charts, diagrams and x-rays. But have they calculated their lives? Have they spent time working out the puzzles of life?

Without Christ in our lives, we are utterly foolish people concerning the plainest of things.

Solomon prodded us to protect and urged us to go in the right way. God asks each of us to do something that is not difficult. You don’t have to climb the highest mountain, run a marathon or (fill in the blank)…He is only asking us to Remember Him; set ourselves aside, give our lives entirely – including your future and opportunities to God.

Have you done that?
Will you do that?
Will you do that now?

Remember your creator in the days that you now have, before the days of trouble come. Are you going to offer yourself to God when you have nothing left?…All bent up and worn out. Is that your plan? This is God who loved you so much that He sent His only son Jesus to be your savior, your friend, your guide, your Lord and wonderful master. Now…it is always now which is the accepted time.

What is the Legacy that you will leave behind? Cry out from your heart where you are…He knows your heart…thank Him for everything. You owe it all to Him. Have you remembered Him? Have you been foolish? Love Him in response to His amazing love.

You have this moment to tackle this issue.
You dare not presume upon the future. You dare not be entangled in your past. Remember your creator in the days of your youth because as you proceed you are going to encounter the fact of life’s frailty and death’s certainty. The message is very simple, in other words, wise up you’re going to die! Remember your creator while you have an opportunity before the days of trouble come.

Easter helps me remember in vivid color. Then I immediately think of all those that I love and all those that have not heard the wonderful story of our God. I want to shout it on the top of the mountains, but few will listen and even fewer will act.

Today I watched a 16 and 17-year-old accept Jesus into their lives and I vow that I will help them remember as long as I have a breath of life. I did not know either one 6 weeks ago, but now God has brought them into my life. Neither one has a father around. Both live very impoverished lives in a small home with 10 other adults. Both still have hope, promise and joy. They are the only believers in the home. They made a choice to be different and to depend on their brother Jesus to help them. They are wiser than anyone surrounding them in their homes.

They are young and I suspect that most who read this are not. Remember your creator while you have time. Every morning you are credited with 86,400 seconds in your daily bank of time. How have you invested those seconds today? Your bank of time carries no balances. It allows no over drafts. Each day it opens a new account for you and each night if you fail to use the day’s deposits the loss is yours. Remember your Creator today, right now!
