Difficult Questions From Adult Children #3

In the past two blogs,(question #1… and question #2) I have discussed the difficult questions your adult children could pose to you or have already posed and how to answer the questions. This does not guarantee that they are going to immediately follow our Lord, but it is a way of pointing them toward the truth rather than the false messages that society is spreading. All it takes is a university of liberal professors to put huge doubts in the minds of our children.

The first two questions addressed in the first two blogs were: Why trust the authority of the Bible? And, What about those who never heard the gospel? Today we will start with the most important question:

YOU’RE NOT SUGGESTING THAT JESUS IS

THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN

ARE YOU?

You can’t believe that can you. After all a quarter of the world is Muslim. Underlying this response is the notion that it doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you are sincere with what you believe or you state it with intensity. That is pretty preposterous isn’t it? If someone tells us to go skating on a pond that is only a 1/16 of an inch thick of ice, the sincerity or intensity of our conviction will not allow the ice to hold us up. It is not the dimension of belief we bring to the object but the object itself. Faith is only as good as the object in which it is placed!

Therefore Jesus is a substantial object to place our trust. The Bible itself declares Jesus as the only way to heaven. As a result it is imperative to have your Bible available when answering this question and a new testament for them to read with you. It is far more powerful for them to read as you read. Slick memorization will turn them off as the cults do. Three verses that will support your premise are: John 14:6, John 10:9, and Acts 4:12.

Hinduism says that god comes in many forms. Christianity says that God comes in the form of Christ. We cannot both be right. Judaism says that Christ did not rise from the dead. Christianity says he does. We cannot both be right.  We need to stress the exclusivity of Jesus Christ and always do so with humility. Always share the awesome privilege that God has given us the grace to accept faith and the opportunity to share. Alister Begg says that we should always speak as one beggar telling another beggar where to find food.

Next week I will discuss two important questions:

HOW CAN I BELIEVE IN A GOD WHO ALLOWS PEOPLE TO SUFFER?

SINCE SCIENCE HAS DISPROVED CREATION AND MIRACLES, THAN ISN’T CHRISTIANITY NOW OBSOLETE?
