Choice As A Lifestyle

Last week I shared the most important question and The Choice. Today I am going to explain how and why to make The Choice your lifestyle and why that will bring you delight and joy deeper than any you have ever experienced or felt.

Once we have made The Choice to make Jesus our words, our love, our acceptance, and our life, we open the door to making hundreds of choices, each of which will have to do with the progressive conversion of seeing Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life in each situation. I call this Progressive Revelation. You don’t have to do anything except listen and Jesus will reveal a new truth each day and light that will brighten your walk and make His joy clearer. And each will meet your needs perfectly at that very moment. Believe me, this is hard to understand until you are open to seeing His communication in everything.

By everything, I mean everything. What you hear, see, smell and read. I marvel each day at how much the Lord wants to tell me. I am overwhelmed with messages, insight, and love.

If you refuse bitterness, anger, justification, debate, hatred, self-righteousness, and competition, you will hear clearly the Lords whisper in everything.

The Choice is not to ask Jesus for help to act like Him, but ask Jesus to act through you. It is not a surrender of your will, but an activation of the will through choosing the Lord. How this works is that you don’t say:

  • Help me say the right thing
  • Help me love
  • Help me be pleasing to God
  • Help me be more like You

What you do say is, “Jesus, be my words, my love, my acceptance, and my life.”

This requires patience, quietness, and acceptance. If you are in an argument or are fearful or in pain or simply tense about something, go to a quiet place and pray, “Lord, be my words, my love, my acceptance, and my life.” And wait! And trust, because instantaneously Jesus is answering your prayer, so no point in being in fear or angst. It is answered. You might not see the results right away or the results may not what you think should happen, but believe me Jesus is at work.

The grace and mercy of the Lord are amazing. How powerful they are. If you choose you can, with the power of Jesus’s grace, say no to the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the boastful pride of life; you can say no to appetites because you are dead to sin and, in Christ Jesus, no longer slave to it. You have broken the chains to bondage and are free to love and enjoy God’s creation.

At my desk at work, I have this message: “lest I forget, ‘not my will but Thine.’ Jesus chose obedience to the Father over comfort and safety.”

Practically speaking, those we love the most will hurt us the most. Think about Jesus and the abandonment of those of whom He poured His life. So you are offended by one that you love; something rude is said, there is an explosion, past events are brought into the present, and the wound is deep. Sound familiar?

If you have made The Choice, you now accept Jesus as your Way, your Truth, and your Life. Choosing anything other than “Your will, not mine” will result in feeling lost, lied to, and the stench of death the flesh brings with it. “A kind word can turn away wrath.” Jesus would only do through him what is best for him; love can do nothing else.
